and now for some NaNobabble
Posted by Jenna on Sep 16, 2008 in blog | 2 commentsThe smell of fall is in the air, the weather is turning colder, there’s snow on the mountain tops . . . must mean it’s time for Nanowrimo.
I’ll be participating this year. This will be my fourth year NaNoing: both Chiaroscuro and Something Beautiful’s rough drafts were NaNoWriMo projects. My first year was a fanfic novel that is still unfinished. (Which is, believe me, for the best.) Last year I did not because I had a deadline in December and didn’t feel I could do both and give either the attention they deserved. But this year . . . ah, this year
. I have plans. I have a few different plots to choose from for when it’s time to sit and write. I’m so excited. (Really, this is me excited.)
I just cleared out my buddy list at the NaNoWriMo site of names I don’t recognize so if I need to add you back give me a pokin’. I am minorblue (though that may change if they implement the renaming thing they hinted at last year. Or not. I’m easily bored–I change names a lot.) And I will happily accept new NaNoBuddies, because it’s just more fun that way.
I may be doing another Thing in tandem with NaNoWriMo, but that’s still a decision I need to make. So more on that later. Or not.
The t-shirt they have for this year, celebrating NaNoWriMo’s tenth anniversary, is pretty nifty, too. I love commemorative t-shirts.

They’ve got the ’08 site up and going already? O_O Wow, didn’t they wait until October 1 to start up last time…?
I’m kind of :/ about NaNo this year. I’ve done it twice before, won in ’06 and not in ’08, but even in ’06 that 50K and a bit seemed to be only half or so of the story. I got 30K and change last year, and I really like the story and want to work on it again. I have two partials now and I’m very reluctant to start a third. What I want to do is start a fresh file for the purpose of wordcount, but keep working on last year’s novel this November. If they’ll let me do that, then that’s great. If not, then I’ll probably do it anyway but just not officially sign up. I don’t think my meager audience would stand still for yet another fresh start this year, and in all seriousness I’d rather not do that either.
That issue aside, though, I’m looking forward to it again. [grin]

Nope, not yet: they’ll be doing the reboot starting this weekend. But they’ve started sending out emails and the merchandise is starting to go up.
You can carry on with an old work if you start the wordcount on November first, I think. The rules are really pretty lax.
I’ll add ya!
